ASIAN YOUTH FORUM: AYF at PAC7 IN TOKYO
October 31 - November 3, 2008

What is AYF?
AYF - Asian Youth Forum - is a part of Pan Asian Conferences (PAC) for Teachers of English which take place biannually. The first AYF was organized in Seoul, Korea, 1999 and in June, 2004 it took place in Vladivostok when more then 50 students from Japan, Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, Philippines, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Russia got together. The previous AYF was held in Bangkok, Thailand and was attended by 4 Russian students of the Institute of Management, Oriental Institute and Institute of Foreign Languages, FENU.

PAC7 will be held in Tokyo at the National Olympic Memorial Center from October 31 to November 3 this year. Hosted by JALT, FEELTA's partner in Japan, the conference is held in collaboration with all of FEELTA's Asian partners, from Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, and of course FEELTA itself.

As is now traditional, an Asian Youth Forum will be held in conjunction with the PAC conference in Tokyo. This is an opportunity for young people, our students, from all over Asia, to meet each other and discuss issues which concern them all. FEELTA has sent substantial delegations to the last two AYF events and intends to do the same this time. AYF6 will involve around 100 young people in a 6-day event (October 30 - November 4) running in parallel with the PAC conference.

Why AYF?
The aim of the AYF is to bring together college-aged students through the medium of English-as-as-Asian language to discuss language, culture, education, and global issues that affect their world today. By doing this, we expect to bring about a better understanding of the world they live in and provide students with the tools to become global citizens and leaders of the new millennium. Also, this is a unique chance for students not only to get acquainted with the customs and traditions of Asian countries, but also to make new friends, to improve their English skills and to share their own culture through everyday interaction, classes and conference presentations.

How will I be selected?
Five young people will be chosen by FEELTA to represent the Russian Far-East in Tokyo at AYF. FEELTA representatives will choose the most suitable candidates based on the application form and an interview.

Where can I learn more about AYF?
You can find more details and reports on previous AYF activities at http://www.asianyouthforum.org/.
